Düsseldorf carnival prince inspires on Tenerife
This year I was able to experience a very special honor: As carnival prince of the state capital Düsseldorf, I had the opportunity to represent the Rhenish cheerfulness on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
The Düsseldorf carnival delegation's trip to the Canary Island of Tenerife has been an integral part of the carnival calendar for over 50 years.
So the princely couple of the 2023 / 2024 session was given the honor of being the first princely couple under the sole aegis of the Förderverein Freundschaft mit Teneriffa.
On October 8, 2023, 21 carnivalists from various carnival clubs met at the El Lazo restaurant on Bolker Straße to found a new association.
After presenting the idea and deciding on a constitution, the board was elected.
Martin Milster became first chairman, Frank Pagalies second chairman, Jasmin Lemmermeier secretary and Maximilian Schnorrenberg treasurer.

This year I was able to experience a very special honor: As carnival prince of the state capital Düsseldorf, I had the opportunity to represent the Rhenish cheerfulness on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
The days on the island were characterized by warmth, joie de vivre and unforgettable moments. The official meetings with the island's mayors and presidents were particularly moving - characterized by great respect and cordial exchanges.
One of the highlights of my visit was taking part in a festively decorated carnival float that paraded through the streets of Puerto de la Cruz. The atmosphere along the route was overwhelming: an enthusiastic audience of locals and tourists gave us a welcome full of joy, openness and warmth.
This trip was a unique experience that I will probably never forget as a carnival prince. I am proud to have represented Düsseldorf in Tenerife and would like to thank everyone who made this special moment possible.

At the same time, it was actually our first ever participation in this tradition, which has a great reputation and is surrounded by many stories and anecdotes. In an exceptionally short session, when our beloved state capital is still in winter mode, it is of course a very special pleasure to suddenly feel 25-30 degrees and sun on your skin.
Airport DUSThis expectation was fulfilled from the very first moment and the thermal insulation of the outfit was put to a serious test.
ConfettiThe various official receptions and tributes were all dominated by the enormous warmth of our hosts. The mayor ... and his team were true thoroughbred carnivalists and the typical local rituals, such as the Tuntenlauf, are absolutely compatible with Rhineland customs.
In contrast to the sometimes hectic finale of our session in Düsseldorf, things were quite leisurely here, leaving plenty of time for chatting and relaxing in the sun. The guided bike tour on the Tede was a highlight in both senses of the word and certainly has what it takes to become another tradition. Especially as our Lord Mayor did not miss the opportunity to wave the starting flag in person.

Starter Lord Mayor KellerAfter the end of the delegation trip, we treated ourselves to a few private vacation days in the north of the island and began to process the countless memories and impressions of the "session of our lives".

The aim of the new support association is to give the already 51-year-old friendship between the carnivalists from Puerto de la Cruz and Düsseldorf, as well as the delegation partners from Mönchengladbach, Neuss, Duisburg and Bonn, a secure basis for the future.
This friendship has been supported over the years by various associations, including the Gerresheimer Bürgerwehr and the Düsseldorfer Carneval Committee, and in the last ten years by the Ehrengarde Stadt Düsseldorf.
This delegation exchange has been taking place since 1972, with around 30 Spaniards from Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, always traveling to Düsseldorf just in time for Old Wives' Day. Meetings with carnivalists from other cities in the Rhineland are also on the program.
On Ash Wednesday, around 85 carnivalists will travel to Puerto de la Cruz to celebrate the Canarian carnival together. After Manfred Kaiser handed over the care of 2019 to his "adjutant" Martin Milster, work continued on the diversity of the program.
Every year, we try to make sure that the royalty from Tenerife have a wonderful stay. However, we are still dependent on donations. We need a coach for a whole week, we are always looking for sponsors in the catering industry to welcome our guests and, depending on the program, we need a budget for entrance fees. From now on, this will be the task of the support association.
We are hoping for as many members as possible who consider this friendship to be just as valuable and would like to support us.
In addition to information about our guests in Düsseldorf, our visits to Puerto de la Cruz and the summer carnival in Puerto de la Cruz in September, we would also like to offer our members get-to-know-each-other evenings with the majesties from Puerto de la Cruz,' says Martin Milster.
